Healthcare referrals

A practical acupuncture referral pathway

Austin AcuCare welcomes appropriate referrals from licensed healthcare professionals seeking complementary support for their patients.

Referral philosophy

The objective is to support the patient without disrupting necessary medical evaluation, medication management, rehabilitation, or the existing clinician-patient relationship.

With patient authorization, communication may include attendance confirmation, general treatment focus, response to care, and recommendations for reassessment or referral back to the healthcare team.

Referral process

Three straightforward steps

01

General contact

Contact Austin AcuCare to confirm fit, availability, location, and the intended treatment focus without sending PHI.

02

Secure information exchange

Once a healthcare-appropriate platform is connected, clinical details can be exchanged through a secure process.

03

Patient-authorized follow-up

Communication back to the referring professional can be arranged when authorized and useful.

Potential referral categories

  • Musculoskeletal pain and tension
  • Mobility-related concerns
  • Supportive care during rehabilitation
  • Stress-related symptom burden
  • Appropriate complementary symptom management
  • Herbal consultation requiring professional review

Clinical boundaries

Patients with emergency symptoms, unstable conditions, serious red flags, or concerns requiring medical diagnosis should receive appropriate medical evaluation first.

Austin AcuCare does not advise patients to discontinue prescribed medication or replace indicated medical treatment.
